Police need more training on persons with Autism
Unarmed Man Shot by Police in Koreatown
The 'man' in the above story had autism.
The only decent solutions I see to help curb things like this from happening are better and more police training on how to communicate with along with more awareness among the public. Also, those of us with kids who have autism (no matter their age), need to train them on exactly what to do if they encounter police or security guards. This man surely didn't understand the gravity of the situation and the police didn't know he had autism. The police have to be able to protect themselves from someone they think is pulling out a weapon with the intent to injure or kill them.
Although I don't really see how this situation could have been avoided considering the facts that were provided, regular police training on people who have autism may be able to help with future incidents.
